After the nod by the State Government in the Winter Session of State Assembly for tagging of Aalim (B.A) Fazil (M.A) degrees with the recognised universities of the State the madarasa students are now hopeful of a better future.
“We welcome the step taken by the State Government for tagging the Aalim which is seen equivalent to (B.A) and Faazil equivalent to (M.A) by the state government. Jharkhand Academic Council should not to conduct examinations of graduation and master level but this has been going on from the last 13 years. The Aalim and Faazil students of Jharkhand don’t get recognition anywhere outside the state. I am hoping that if these degrees get recognition from UGC affiliated universities students from madrassas will be able to avail the facilities of higher education and can apply for government jobs too.” said S Ali of Jharkhand Chatra sangh.
“I had to undergo many hurdles for doing my B.Ed degree. I got 10th rank in the entrance exam for B.Ed in Maulana Azad National University Hyderabad but I was rejected because the Fazil degree I obtained in Jharkhand is not recognized by the UGC. Now with the announcement of by state government about the tagging of the degrees with the universities there is hope that the coming batch of Aalim Fazil students will have better future and more scope for higher education.” said Abdul Wadood a Fazil student.
Despite the large number of madrasaas in the state no concrete step had been taken for solving the recognition issue of the madrassas. There are 776 madrassas in the state since the formation of Jharkhand in the year 2000. For 13 years Jharkhand Academic Council has been conducting Aalim (graduation) and Faazil (master) level examination.
“There are 776 madrasaa in the state out of which 186 madrassas are government aided and 590 madrassas are non-aided.32, 563 students passed in wastaniya to Fazil degree in the year 2013. The result of the students under these degrees is 93.59 percent.” mentioned Sushil Kumar secretary of Jharkhand Academic Council.
As of now the state government has accepted the matter of validating degrees with the universities. It is still to be implemented in practical. Madrassa students are positive over the developments in the issue.
“We have been raising this issue. last year also we had a meeting with the governor at the Maulana Azad University but due to the instability in the government nothing could happen to it. This time I hope some substantial step would be taken.” said Noor-ul-Islam President of All Jharkhand Madrassa Sangh.
