Hooters remain silent a day after CM's order

Thanks to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Ministers and babus finally silenced the hooters considered as a symbol of aristocracy and a dividing line between commoners and the VVIPs. The CM had asked Ministers and officials to not use the equipment while passing though urban areas.

A day after the CM’s directive Ministers and MlA’s arriving at the Coordination Committee’s meeting did not use the equipment which often causes inconvenience to common man and common vehicles alike. The CM’s directive seems to have sunk in very well among the officials and was evident throughout the day.

“The Government is for common man, hence Ministers and officials should also live like a common man,” said Soren. The CM’s noble effort to win hearts of people who usually have to face a lot of inconvenience and give way to vehicles blowing the hooter even on a congested road has won support of Ministers belonging to the Congress also.

“It does cause irritation and increases noise pollution. This is a good decision,” conceded Human Resource Development Minister Gitashree Oraon. Incidentally, carcades of Ministers and VVIPs have often been a subject of intense debate due to inconvenience to the common man and accidents caused by it. Meanwhile, the CM on Saturday reiterated his stand on cutting down on the size of carcades comprising security forces deployed for the protection of VVIP’s. The CM has directed officials to prepare report on the level of security needed by an officials and Ministers.

“I have asked them review my security as well. While security must be provided on a visit to Naxal infested areas there is no need for (so much) security in urban areas,” maintained CM. The Government has always been criticised for employing too many security guards in the service of ministers and other VVIPs and ignoring security concerns of the common man. To protest against this discriminatory arrangement Jamshedpur MP Dr Ajay Kumar has returned the security being provide to him.

In a letter to the Jamshedpur SP A V Homkar, Kumar criticised the deteriorating law & order and wished to live like a common man.
