Hobby fishers can rent ponds for Rs100 a day

In this scorching summer, most of the pond owners have now opened their ponds to the fishermen and the commoners until the arrival of monsoon at Rs100 a day, which has become great attraction for the pass time hobby fishers in Ranchi.

Apart from this not only people with angling as a hobby but also fish market vendors are finding this more profitable and are gathering around the ponds to lay their bait.

Ponds near Karam Toli, line Tank Road, Bahu bazaar, Bada Talab and many other ponds in Ranchi have become hobby hubs where large numbers of people are gathering everyday to lay their fishing poles. Most of the pond owners under the scheme of cultivating new fishes have given their ponds for these fishers, which they give usually during summers.

Despite the scorching heat and low number of fishes, people are desperate to practice their hobby, as this is the time they can enjoy catching fish; the other times they have to go into outskirts areas.

“I enjoy fishing as it’s my hobby, but apart from this we hardly get fresh fish in this summer and having fresh fish by paying Rs100 is worth it. Apart from this this is the only time we get chance to fish,” said Abdul near Karam toil pond.

Fish lovers find it an opportunity to have fresh fish than those stale market fish, which are usually brought from Andra Pradesh. The other noticeable thing can be seen among the fish vendors that they fish from morn until evening under burning sun and they catch their fish alive. Selling live fish gets them demanded rate.

“Fresh fish is at great demand and we sell it at price more than market,” said a fisher at bara talab.“The sale of fish is low in market this summer as stale fishes are sold in the town; and apart from it as a hobby, we like to have fresh fish for our consumption,” Satish, a resident near karam toil pond, said.
