The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has crossed 14 years of its journey and it is time to sit, introspect and set its goal for the future. This goal can be for the next 365 days with scope for mid-course correction, said UGC Chairman Prof Ved Prakash in his address at the 7th convocation of the university here on Sunday.

The academicians must revisit the curriculum and find out whether the campus provides adequate space to its students and the faculty for research and innovations. They must also examine the learning system to find out whether it is inspiring in a living environment, he said.

Prof Prakash had some tips for the students when he said, ‘You have to develop a passion for continuous learning as it has no time frame and cultivate the art of learning from failures. You must learn to treat every individual with dignity as future members of knowledge based society’. As higher education is at a premium, he sought for a strong support from the stakeholders where the universities are set up. Governor of Odisha and Chancellor of the BPUT Dr SC Jamir presided over the convocation and awarded gold medals to 51 students in their respective disciplines besides conferring PhD on eight students. The Chancellor also authenticated distribution of more than 60,000 certificates which were in backlog since 2012.

Dr Jamir said the curriculum and the infrastructure of BPUT provide a conducive platform for its stakeholders to participate and contribute significantly in the national programmes like Swachha Bharat, Digital India, Skill India, Start up etc. The university should endeavour to produce job creators and not job seekers, he said urging upon the students to uphold the ethical values acquired from this university. Earlier University VC Prof (Dr) Shyam Sundar Patnnaik welcomed the gathering and presented the report.
