In a major jolt to the circulators of counterfeit currency Ranchi Police again recovered fake currency worth Rs1 lakh in the most widely used denomination of Rs500. The seizure was made on Tuesday morning near Ranchi Railway Station and one person—Badunath Mandal has been arrested in connection with the case.

The arrest was made following a tip-off and search operation by police who zeroed-in on Mandal and recovered two bundles of Rs500 fake currency notes from his possession. Mandal is a resident of Malda which is close to Bangladesh on the Indian side of the international border. “The fake notes are of very high quality and it appears to be printed from a very sophisticated machine. We suspect that the trail goes back to Bangladesh and one Raisuddin has been named by Mandal in the interrogation process. Further leads will come only after the arrest of Raisuddin,” said City SP Anoop Birtharay.

Upon interrogation Mandal divulged that the currencies were supposed to be sold to a person in Ranchi and it was expected to make way to latehar through channels which the police is still trying to trace to from one to another end. A team of police is likely to be sent to bring Raisuddin to Jharkhand to expose hidden players of gray market for currencies. Police suspect that the arrested person may not have been on his maiden voyage to sell fake currency.

“We suspect that this man would have done this thing earlier as well. We will talk to the West Bengal police and will send a team to arrest Raisuddin,” added the City SP. Upon interrogation Mandal revealed that the currency was purchased at Rs34,000 and as per the deal the Rs1 lakh worth currency was expected to fetch between Rs38,000 and Rs40,000 thus yielding a clean profit of Rs2000.

Meanwhile, in a shocking development in the VVIP zone of Kanke Road unidentified miscreants looted around Rs90,000 from a gas agency at a stone’s throw away from the residence of Assembly Speaker, Dinesh Oraon and barely few yards from CM’s residence.
