High Court poser on food adulteration in Jharkhand

The Jharkhand High Court on Monday asked the State Government to file an affidavit as to what steps have been taken to check adulteration of edibles in the State.

A Division bench of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice BB Mangalmurthy was hearing a PIl filed by Advocate Rajeshwar Pandey challenging transfer of the then SDO Bhor Singh Yadav to Jamtara, who gained popularity after he took action against nearly two dozen of business establishments alleging them of being involved in adulteration of edibles in Ranchi.

“Setting aside the challenge raised by the petitioner against the transfer of the IAS officer from Ranchi to Jamtara as Deputy Development Commissioner, the Court has asked the State Government to file an affidavit depicting what action has been taken following the FIR lodged against the businessmen by the then SDO Bhor Singh,” said Additional Advocate General Jaiprakash. The State Government has also to tell the court about the steps being taken by the State Government to check adulteration as a whole in the State, he added.

Notably, Yadav remained instrumental in exposing a number of wrongdoers in the city from the day he took charge as Sub-divisional Officer in Ranchi. Yadav not only exposed edible oil and milk adulterators, he also came harsh on traffic rule violators and middle-men active in the District Transport Office, bus owners violating transport norms and duplicate seed sellers in Pandra market.

The PIl was initiated by Rajeshwar Pandey in Jharkhand High Court following a notification issued by the personnel department directing Yadav to join as DDC Jamtara.

Remarkably, Yadav was transferred from Ranchi within a period of four months after being promoted as DDC of Jamtara.
