Hemlal, Furkan file nominations

Inertia seems to have gripped nomination process for the last of General Elections in Jharkhand as only three candidates in the remaining four constituencies of Rajmahal, Gooda, Dumka and Dhanbad filed nomination on the fourth day since the notification was issued.

The notification for the four constituencies scheduled to go to polls on April 24 was issued on March 29. Bhartiya Janata Party candidate for Rajmahal, Hemlal Murmu, was the lone face to file nomination on Tuesday. Interestingly, Murmu had joined BJP after quitting from JMM and was indirectly taunted by Chief Minister Hemant Soren for shifting his allegiance to the BJP.

The Congress candidate for Godda, Furkan Ansari, also filed nomination on Tuesday. One independent candidate, Parsuram Paswan, filed nomination for Dhanbad. Notably, the nomination tally figures ten nominations by the end of April 1 in four constituencies.

Meanwhile, the election commission has begun the process of modification and setting up auxiliary booths because of infrastructural constraints. The Election Commission of India has approved modification of as many as 290 damaged polling centres, highest in Dhanbad (94) besides approving 103 auxiliary polling centres, highest in latehar (17), across Jharkhand.
