Hemant Soren seeks CBI probe into 'hunger' death case

Published on:

Calling the BJP ruled Government a curse for Jharkhand, former Chief Minister Hemant Soren has demanded CBI inquiry into the death of 11-year-old girl Santoshi Kumari who allegedly died of starvation in Simdega as the family was not given ration since July for not having Aadhaar number seeded to their bank account. Talking to media persons at his official residence here on Wednesday, Soren alleged that people were dying of hunger, old age pension has been stopped, scholarship of poor students has been decreased and the State was busy in selling liquor.

Soren also demanded action against Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, who, he said, had passed an order through video conferencing to remove the names of the families having not linked their Ration Cards with their Aadhaar number.

“It is now clear that administrative and law and order situation is a complete failure during this regime, while the officials of the State Government have been working as an agent of Chief Minister and trying to manage vote as well as money for him,” said Soren. People are dying in the State and Chief Minister along with the top officials of the State Government is busy with foreign tours, he added.

“I don’t understand who in las Vegas will be interested to invest in Jharkhand. las Vegas is known for gambling and liquor and we have some photographs available with us where the government officials and CM are seen being served liquor,” said Soren. Anarchy is at its peak in the State where, the companies operating in Jharkhand were being asked to invest in the companies run by top government officials, he added.

Soren further said that the Chief Minister called an emergency meeting of top officials on Wednesday to discuss the issue when the situation was already out of control.

Calling Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Roy a sensitive minister, the former Chief Minister said that the minister had warned the Chief Minister to rethink over his decision over DBT, but no heed was given to it.

“This Government is snatching foodgrains from the poor at the cost of huge advertisements. They are getting such huge advertisements published in the media so that their lavish lifestyle does not get published in the newspapers and shown on News Channels,” Soren said.

Terming the current State Government a circus, Soren said, “On the one hand the concerned minister says that over 11 lakh people were left without ration cards for not having Aadhaar numbers following the order passed by the Chief Secretary while on the other hand the Chief Secretary says that she never passed such order. One can understand what kind of government is this and how it is functioningIJ”
