The three-day convention of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) was inaugurated at Gopal Maidan, Bistupur on Thursday. On the occasion, JMM chief Shibu Soren hoisted the party flag. Over 4,000 delegates, including top party leaders from Jharkhand and other parts of the country, are participating in the conference, where issues such as prevailing political scenario of the country and State would be deliberated upon, among other.
The central convention, held after every three years, is being held in city for the third time in the party’s long history. Delegates not only from Jharkhand but also from neighbouring States of Odisha, Bengal, Assam, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar are participating in it.
Shibu Soren, along with former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Hemant Soren paid floral tributes to the epitaphs of late party leaders Teklal Mahto, Sudhir Mahto, and Sarkar Murmu.
Hemant Soren speaking to the media said that JMM has made its stand clear on the land Acquisition Bill. “We have decided to oppose the land Ordinance at all forums and our strategy would be chalked out during this convention,” he said.
Hitting out at Raghubar Das led-State Government on domicile policy, Hemant said that the Government is only spreading confusion in the minds of people by not clearing its stand on the domicile policy.
“We are of the opinion that the Government should issue a White Paper on the Domicile Policy to clear confusion in the mind of the people. The Government should clear the definition of ‘moolvasis’ and ‘adivasis’ in the domicile policy,” said Soren.
He also criticised the three month rule of Raghubar Das led State Government and said that the CM is only making announcements. He refused to comment on the grand alliance in the name of Janata Parivar and said that party would take a decision on joining the alliance at proper time.
Issues such as prevailing political scenario of the country and state, domicile policy, land Acquisition Act will be hot topic of deliberation during the convention
There would be organizational elections on the last day of the convention (April 18) which is likely to witness Hemant Soren being made the executive president of the party by bringing an amendment in the party constitution. This would be first instance when a post of executive president would be created in the JMM party.
With an aim to regain its lost sheen in the Kolhan division due to rising differences between leaders and workers, JMM is geared up to mobilise workers and voters with a ‘show of strength’. The party has resolved to get close to the cadres and also to the masses. As part of its strategy to woo all sections of the society, the party, to begin with, has taken an initiative to bridge the gap between the opinion makers and industrialists, among others.
