Hemant seeks CBI probe into 'fake' Naxal surrenders

Published on:

Accusing the State Government of misguiding youths to surrender before the police by posing themselves as Naxals, former Chief Minister and leader of Opposition Hemant Soren has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to get the matter investigated by the CBI so that action could be taken against the culprits.

Hemant was referring to the news reports where eight so called Naxals were made to surrender before the police who were later identified as poor villagers by Special Branch of the State Government, according to reports.

“State Government’s ambitious programme ‘Operation Nai Disha’ is being questioned as out of nine so called PlFI cadres who surrendered before the Police on October 17, eight of them have been identified as poor villagers by the Special Branch of the State Police, who do not have a single case registered against them at any police stations,” said Soren. Accept one, all of them were common people, he added.

Soren termed the report of home department as an example of insensitivity of the present State Government as similar case of making 500 youths surrender before the police by posing them as Naxals through NGO ‘Digdarshan’ was unearthed in May 2014.

“looking at the seriousness of the matter, I had recommended CBI inquiry into the matter during my stint as Chief Minister but the present government took the matter back and filed an affidavit in the High Court saying that it does not require CBI inquiry,” said Soren. The State Government has already completed the investigations long back but the report is yet to be publicized, he added.

“This is the first ever incidence where the same agency will look into the matter against which the allegations have been made,” said the former Chief Minister.

“Therefore, I have requested the Union Home Minister to get the two matters of surrender made by 500 youths and eight villagers investigated by the CBI so that action could be taken against the culprits. Paper cuttings of some of the newspapers covering the news have also been attached with the letter,” Soren added.

Replying to the claims made by CM that Jharkhand will soon become cashless Soren said that he was eager to see how Jharkhand will be made cashless.

“As per my knowledge, there is no cashless economy in this world…. I am really eager to see how Jharkhand will be made cashless by the CM,” said the leader of Opposition.

Soren also alleged that the present government has nothing to do with the development of the State and only aspires to save political base only.
