The State Government has decided to celebrate International Worker’s Day with the manual workforce of Jharkhand. Celebrations this year will feature felicitating workers, initiation of a helpline for them and an assortment of initiatives and online services for their benefit.
Addressing a press meet, labour Minister Raj Paliwar expressed that the labour Day celebrations this year will see participation from the labourers too, with Mazdoor Adhikaar Diwas being organised in district headquarters across the State where they will be extended the benefits of several schemes.
In the main programme at Ranchi, the Chief Minister will inaugurate a 24-hour deadline to redress the grievances of workers from all over Jharkhand, Paliwar pointed out. Certain selected workers will be awarded too, he added.
Various software and online services will also be launched during the event to deliver several benefits to workers in the State. In the event, JAP-IT will be awarded for making and maintaining the Shramadhaan portal.
“Online registration of unorganised and construction workers, online application of welfare schemes for construction workers, online registration and return filing service for labour unions, online return filing and register maintenance facilities for businessmen will be opened on labour Day,” said Paliwar.
Bicycles, tool kits, safety gear and sewing machines will also be distributed among the workers. Although the scheme will encompass construction workers for now, it will soon cover cleaners and sweepers too, added the labour Minister.
Registration process for labourers will be held from April 26 to April 28 at the district-level, and unorganised labourers identified in the process will be benefitted with gifts. As per an estimate drawn by the labour Department, approximately 50,000 workers will be benefitted during the labour Day celebrations this year. For this, funds to the tune of Rs150 crores with Mukhyamanntri Sannirman Karmkar Kalyaan Board will be used.
A survey for verification of unorganised labourers is also being conducted, stated Paliwar. “We are conducting a survey to identify beedi makers to provide them shelter. The survey is required as the Government still does not have accurate statistics regarding the beedi makers. There will be no knee-jerk solutions; we will provide homes to one and all,” he further said.
‘As part of the celebrations on International Workers’ Day, 50,000 workers will be brought under the umbrella of Centre-funded pension scheme, Atal Pension Yojna,” Paliwar said.
