Heavy rain showers chaos in Steel City

Published on:

Heavy rain hit the city hard  on Saturday leading to water clogging in low-lying areas. It threw life out of gear in the city. According to Meteorological office in Sonari, the low pressure in Bay of Bengal is triggering rainfall in the region and the situation is likely to remain the same in next 24 hours.

Areas like Sakchi, Mango, Pardih and Bistupur were worst hit. Water clogging at these areas made commuting difficult for residents. Most of the roads witnessed breaking down of vehicles, adding to the chaos. In some low-lying areas, many vehicles remained non-functional for hours.

Residents of Jugsalai complained of water clogging. “Though post monsoon, rain has brought relief from the heat but water clogging has increased our worries,” said lalit Juneja, a local businessman.

The forecast for the next 48 hours said that rain would occur at most places over Chottanagpur plateau region and at many places over interior Singhbhum. Moderate to rather heavy rain would occur at most places in all the districts of Kolhan.

Meanwhile, residential localities of Old Sitaramdera (Sitaramdera), Refugee Colony (Golmuri), Nehru Colony (Kasidih) and Gurdwara Basti (Sakchi) shows that cleaning work has either been done in a half-hearted manner or not done completely.

The drain passing through Refugee Colony in Golmuri (a population of over 5,000) also proved the same thing true as garbage after being cleaned was found lying on the side of the drain. The drain comes under the jurisdiction of the JNAC.
