Heat waves to continue for the next two days

The soaring temperature accompanied by heat waves is likely to continue for another two days. The weather bulletin released by MET Ranchi Observatory Centre on Tuesday suggested that the mercury level will remain above the normal conditions for next two days. Hovering around 36 degrees Celsius to 42 degrees Celsius, most of the districts at present are witnessing dry weather conditions.

“Following the new development, the temperature level will rise above the normal conditions, up to three to four degree Celsius and the heat waves will continue for another two days. Besides the State Capital, all other districts like Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, Daltonganj, Giridih, Pakur as well will record temperature above 35 degree Celsius. Probably, from June 22 to June 24, South-West (SW) monsoon will make further advancement and rainfall is expected to hit Jharkhand,” said Forecasting Officer of MET Ranchi Observatory Centre, Upendra Srivastava.

According to weathermen, development of low pressure system over northwest Pacific Ocean, weak cross equatorial flow, unfavorable location of active phase of Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) are a few prime reasons for low advancement of SW monsoon. Meanwhile, the Forecasting Officer said that as per the latest prediction, the monsoon circulation is likely to improve. “The SW monsoon is likely to further advance over remaining parts of Assam including Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal and a few parts of Jharkhand, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh between June 22 to June 24.”

Notably, in comparison to last nine years, advancement of SW monsoon this year has been deterred severely. As per the records, in 2010, rainfall hit Jharkhand on July 17. Similarly, in 2011, by the second week of June rainfall had covered maximum districts. Furthermore, according to the data, from 2012 to 2017, yet again showing phenomenal advancement in SW monsoon, rainfall lashed the State from June 15 to June 19, registering up to 1101.1 mm rainfall.

However, considering the present situation, the Forecasting Officer on Tuesday said that besides the constant rise in temperature, there are possibilities of drizzle at a regular interval bringing a slight respite for the public. On Tuesday, light rainfall lashed a few parts of the capital city bringing down the temperature considerably.

On Tuesday, with maximum 39.2 degree Celsius and minimum 26.8 degree Celsius, the State Capital recorded 5.0 mm rainfall while Jamshedpur and Daltonganj registered maximum 40.8 degree Celsius and 40.9 degree Celsius respectively. As per the statement of Ranchi MET Observatory Centre, light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, wind is expected to hit East Singhbhum, Ramgarh, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Seraikela-Kharsawan.
