A hearing was held on Friday at the Jharkhand High Court on the bail plea of former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad on Friday. During this, the CBI sought time from the Court to file a reply.
This was accepted by the Court and on April 16, the fodder scam related to illegal withdrawal from Dumka treasury will be heard.
The RJD chief is suffering from serious diseases is undergoing treatment at AIIMS in Delhi. Earlier, he was being treated at RIMS, Ranchi.
Lalu convicted in the fodder scam, has once again requested the Jharkhand High Court to grant bail. Earlier, the Court of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh rejected the bail plea filed in the illegal withdrawal case from Dumka treasury. Taking the plea of the CBI as true, the Court rejected Lalu’s bail plea.
Lalu is serving a jail sentence in four cases of fodder scam. Recently, on behalf of the former Bihar CM, bail application was filed in the High Court on the basis of completing half of the sentence. According to his Advocate Devarshi Mandal, on April 9, 2021, half of Lalu’s sentence in the Dumka treasury case is being completed. Ranchi’s CBI Court sentenced Lalu to seven years in the Dumka treasury case.
Earlier, the RJD Supremo had once again approached the Jharkhand High Court seeking bail. Lalu, who is serving a jail sentence in four cases of fodder scam, had filed a petition in the High Court on the previous day seeking fresh bail on the basis of completing half of his sentence. A petition for bail was filed on behalf of Lalu by his advocate Devarshi Mandal.
In Lalu’s bail plea, it was argued that he had completed half of the punishment he received from the Court in the Dumka treasury case. Now they can be granted bail without completing half of their sentence. A hearing has been set for Lalu’s bail on Friday, April 9. Earlier on February 19 2021, the Jharkhand High Court refused to grant bail to Lalu. The RJD Supremo’s petition was then dismissed by the Court saying that he had not completed half the term of the total sentence.
Senior Congress leader and famous Supreme Court Lawyer Kapil Sibal, who was arguing on behalf of Yadav, had requested the Court to give a date after two months, which was rejected by the Court. The CBI had then opposed Lalu’s bail plea, saying that he has not completed half the sentence in the Dumka treasury case. There is a remaining time of 19 days in this month.
