Different candidates, different allegiance, similar agendas and a remarkable similarity of missing deadlines to accomplish task of making Ranchi like best capitals in the world are some of the salient features of the manifesto of candidates in mayoral election.
Developing a world class sewerage & drainage system, world class solid waste management system, cleanliness are some of the issues prominently put up in election manifestos, printed or conceptualized, of Rama Khalkho, Barsha Gari and Asha lakra. But none talks about ways to implement it and time in which the promises will be fulfilled.
“We have conceptualized the idea of great capital and we will achieve the goal through a better sewer, solid waste management and underground electricity poles in the city among many others. However it is difficult to put a time frame to achieve all these goals,” said Asha lakra’s Election Convener, Gama Singh.
The absence of time-bound action, say candidates, is a result of a municipal body subservient under Urban Development department which has a greater say in the affairs of Ranchi Municipal Corporation. It is the difficulty to cut through the red-tapism in the government corridors that is often termed as the hindrance in making commitments about timely action in the manifesto.
Asha lakra, a BJP backed candidate, wants a clean city with underground electricity supply system, an improved public transport system among other things for the residents of the capital.
For the AJSU party backed candidate Barsha Gari, empowerment of women working as a daily wager, senisitising people to help RMC develop Ranchi as the best city in the country and a better coordination among all ward councilors to achieve maximum development are the few agendas that differentiates her from other party backed candidates. But, even the AJSU party backed candidate falls short of anything on timely action on the promises made in the manifesto.
“Despite odds I will try to achieve my goals in time. But I have not mentioned time as there are other stake holders in the RMC and they need to be taken on board for all-round development,” said Barsha Gari.
Congress backed candidate, Rama Khalkho, believes that the city needs a better sewerage & drainage system, a better solid waste management system. The former Mayor of Ranchi promises the city to make it a well organized place besides working towards poverty alleviation in the capital.
“As a Mayor I had brought important projects from the centre and that is the reason people are getting better services. I would request people to vote for me so that I can fulfill works which I could not do during my earlier tenure,” said Khalkho.
