District Health authorities are all set to take stringent action against five medical establishments in Bokaro Steel City including Naraini Hospital, Sewa Sadan and Kumar Diagnostic in Cooperative Colony, and Raj Nursing Home and Vrindavan Nursing Home in City Centre Sector 4 after finding several irregularities and lacking during a surprise inspection.
Earlier in the month of December 2018, a team (of health authorities) also conducted a surprise raid at Vrindavan Nursing Home besides four others and submitted the report to then Bokaro Deputy Commissioner MK Barnawal and then Civil Surgeon assured for stringent action but all goes in-vain.
On Tuesday, a team headed by nodal officer Dr Rahul Singh, found violation of the Clinical Establishment Act at Vrindavan Nursing Home again. We found that most of those establishments were running without valid certificates, lack of doctors and medical experts there. The team found improper sanitation, negligence and lack of proper hygiene standards with lack of cleaning there. All of them were found with flouting the biomedical water disposal norms, said Dr Rahul.
"The team also seized expired medicines form those nursing homes," he added.
Naraini Hospital was found running without registration under the Clinical Establishment Act and was found too dirty. We will recommend for its closure, he said adding, “We are surprised to see Kumar Diagnostic Centre having an X-Ray machine and Ultrasound machine operational in one room, without following radiation safety. We also found that wards in Vrindavan Nursing Home were in poor condition."
Meanwhile, the district health authority is all set to crake whip on private hospitals, nursing homes and ultrasound centres running illegally across the district.
Alarmed over the blatant flouting of norms by the local medical establishments-department has taken stiff action in a meeting. A special drive would be conducted and establishments running without registration under clinical establishment act or running illegal would be sealed, said Dr Ashok Kumar Civil Surgeon Bokaro.
“Surprise inspection on ultrasound centres and pathology labs would also be carried out,” he added.
There are more than 500 clinical establishments are running across the district and only a few were got registered under the act. According to the norms, each and every clinical establishment should get provisional registration number within 14 days from the date it applied to the District Registration Authority, said an official.
District Registration Authority is a committee headed by DC, Civil Surgeon, IMA authorized person, one AYUSH person and president of Zila Parishad, he said. And if the establishment fulfils the norms that will get permanent registration number within two months otherwise their registration would be cancelled, he said.
Notably, the government has endorsed the act in the country with a view to prescribing the minimum standards of facilities and services provided by them.
The Act is applicable to all kinds of clinical establishments from the public and private sectors, of all recognized systems of medicine including single doctor clinics.
The only exception will be establishments run by the Armed forces, said a doctor of IMA.
