HC tells State Government to develop model tourist spots

The Jharkhand High Court has asked State Government to develop at least four picnic spots which could be treated as model tourist spots in Jharkhand.  While hearing a PIl filed by one Babloo Kumar, the Court also directed ITDC officials to be present in the court henceforth during the hearing.

Petitioner Babloo Kumar filed his PIl November 2011 exposing the pitiable condition of popular picnic spots surrounding the capital. He pointed out a series of deficiencies, including the lack of public toilets and drinking water facilities.

Though the petition was restricted to developing tourist spots in the capital, the high court after hearing the petition, widened its ambit to include the development of all tourist spots in the State.

In another hearing another PIl filed by one Vishal Mahto, the Jharkhand High Court directed the State Government to file an affidavit depicting the number of Tigers in the State.

The State will have to submit a report that how many tigers were there in 2001 and how many of them have been left till date. Mahto in his PIl blamed senior Government officials, particularly those in the forest department, for ignoring the alarming trend. He claimed the department was negligent about using funds at its disposal for developing forests and maintaining wildlife in the State.
