HC takes suo moto cognisance of black fungus case

The Jharkhand High Court, taking suo motu cognisance in the black fungus case made a strong verbal remark on Wednesday. The High Court in its verbal remark stated that the PA of the Chief Minister says that the Government does not have money for treatment of patients.

In such cases citizens should arrange money for their own treatment by selling their place and land. Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan while hearing the case said if I had money, I would have helped the victim by giving money.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the case of Usha Devi, who was suffering from black fungus, the Chief Justice of the High Court has asked the State government what arrangements have been made for the treatment of the victim woman.

At the same time, the court asked the RIMS Director present during the hearing that can he file an affidavit and give information that patients suffering from black fungus are not buying medicines from outside? Giving information to the court, the RIMS director said that the supply of medicines is not complete, so they cannot file an affidavit.

At the same time, after hearing from the State government and the director of RIMS, the court agreed that it is not possible to airlift every patient for treatment. But, arrangements should be made for them to get better treatment in RIMS.

During the hearing, Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan, appearing for the State government, told the court that all possible arrangements are being made for treatment of black fungus patients in RIMS. The High Court asked the State government that if black fungal has been declared an epidemic, what is the Government’s policy to deal with it and what steps have been taken by the government. This information should be given through an affidavit.

At the same time, the court has also filed an affidavit asking Jhalsa to tell what Jhalsa is doing for the patients suffering from black fungus. The court asked the RIMS director to ensure that the patient and other patients of the relatives who wrote the letter to the court were not harassed.

It may be noted that a 45-year-old Usha Devi, a resident of Pachamba in Giridih district, is in the grip of black fungus. On May 17, Usha was brought to RIMS for treatment. But, it took two days for the treatment to start.

At the same time, due to negligence in treatment, the infection has spread completely in one eye, with infection reaching the brain. Seeing the poor condition of the mother, Usha’s children Gaurav and daughter Pooja requested Chief Minister Hemant Soren for treatment.

In the letter submitted to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, it is written that Dr CK Birua and Dr Vinod Singh of RIMS have been negligent in treatment. Due to which the woman’s condition became critical. The woman’s children demanded from the State government shifting of woman to Kerala or Ahmedabad for better treatment, demanding an air ambulance facility.  The two children also stated that if their mother is not provided better treatment than they will commit suicide at RIMS.
