HC respite to BCCI acting Secy

Giving relief to BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, the Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday allowed a quashing petition filed by him against the cognisance taken by a latehar Court in a complaint case alleging him of forming a new committee of latehar Cricket Association by dissolving the old committee illegally through forged signatures.

The complaint case was filed by the then District Cricket Association Secretary Vinit Kumar Madhukar.

“A singly bench of Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyaya today allowed the quashing petition filed by him on the ground that the case was not palpable against him. It was the responsibility of the District president to hold AGM in a transparent and fair way,” said Chaudhary’s advocate Amit Das. The complaint case was filed against Chaudhary and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha District president Pankaj Singh on July 31, 2013, he added.

“It was submitted on behalf of Chaudhary that he was not involved in dissolving the committee of latehar Cricket Association as the onus of dissolving lies with the then president of the Association only. Convinced with the arguments made in the Court, the petition was allowed,” the advocate said.

The advocate further said that it was alleged that Chaudhary and Singh formed a new committee after suspending the old panel with the help of forged signatures of the committee members. They were also allegedly involved in rigging of votes during the election of district cricket association, he said.

“Judicial Magistrate Taufique Ahmed had started hearing after taking cognizance in the case and had also issued notices against him. The matter was pending since then in the court,” the advocate said.
