HC relief to Rahul Gandhi

In a relief to Congress party president Rahul Gandhi, Jharkhand High Court on Monday stayed further proceedings against him in a defamation case (CrMP/4241/2018), which was under trail in a sub-divisional judicial magistrate's court in Ranchi civil court.

Hearing the appeal in the case Justice S Chandrashekhar passed the stay order and also issued notice to the petitioner.

It may be stated here that a Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) member Naveen Kumar Jha had filed a defamation suit against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks against BJP president. While addressing party workers, Rahul had allegedly said that even a murderer could become party president in BJP. The SDJM court had taken cognizance and issued summon to Gandhi in the case. Senior advocate Rajiv Ranjan informed that HC has stayed all proceedings in the case.  The next date of hearing in the case has been fixed next month.
