Taking cognizance of Jharkhand State Bar Council’s (JSBC) one-day strike on Wednesday over the demands of reserving 50 per cent posts of Public Prosecutors and Additional Public Prosecutors for experienced regular practitioner advocates, Jharkhand High Court issued notice to the State Government.

Initiating a Public Interest litigation (PIl) in this matter, the State HC has sought a reply from Jharkhand Government by March 16, when the next hearing of the case has been scheduled.

Before this, a delegation of JSBC officeholders met Chief Minister Raghubar Das with their demands. Meanwhile, lawyers from District Bar Associations and Sub-Divisional Bar Associations of Jharkhand submitted their representations to respective Deputy Commissioners and Sub-Divisional Officers.

“We presented our demands of reserving 50 per cent posts of PPs and APPs be reserved for regular practitioners. In addition to this, we asked for grants to the tune of `20 crore for our Advocate Welfare Fund. The CM responded positively to our requests,” stated JSBC Chairman Rajiv Ranjan.
