Disposing of the PIl seeking CBI enquiry into the Tara Shahdeo torture case, Jharkhand High Court on Friday handed over the three cases — 742, 797 and 799 to the CBI for further investigations. Demands for an enquiry into Ranjit Singh Kohli’s alleged terror connections began soon after NGO Akhand Bharat filed a PIl in the Jharkhand High Court seeking a probe by the CBI or National Investigation Agency.
According to petitioner’s advocate Rajiv Kumar, the statement recorded by Shahdeo reveals that her husband Ranjit Kohli, alias Raquib-ul Hassan, was being backed by several influential persons holding important positions and was also getting huge amount of money from some unknown sources which must be investigated by a neutral agency. “The PIl demanding CBI enquiry was finally disposed of by the court handing over the two Kotwali PS cases 797 and 799 to CBI,” said petitioner’s advocate Rajiv Kumar. After State Government notified all the three cases to the CBI, it will be further investigated by the CBI, the advocate said.
Kumar further added that the CBI is also to file application at the lower courts where the cases are being pursued and get stay orders for a short period of time in all the three cases for conducting investigations. “The CBI will then file a report in the court after making proper investigations in the cases which may be further considered by the court on its own merit,” said advocate. A week after Tara Shahdeo lodged an FIR and recorded her statement before court accusing her husband of torturing and forcing her to change religion, Ranchi police failed to make any headway.
