Pulling up the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for not starting probe in Tara Shahdeo case, the Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday gave a deadline of May 19 to the central agency to start probe. The court also observed that it will have to find another way to get the case properly investigated if the CBI fails to start the probe till May 19.

“The court in its verbal observation said that that there seems to be a hidden agenda behind the deliberate delay in starting the probe,” said advocate Rajiv Kumar.

According to Kumar, the court was surprised with the fact that despite notification being issued by the state government referring the case to the CBI, the probe could not be started. “The court also observed that the CBI counsel, after the issuing of notification in August 2014, took two dates to clear their stand on it. Meanwhile, investigation were completed and charge-sheet was filed,” said Kumar.

The case had grabbed national attention after ace shooter alleged torture by her husband Ranjeet Singh Kohli and his mother after she refused to change her religion. Shahdeo had repeatedly been questioning the ongoing investigation conducted by the state police apprehending that the police might be pressurized by some “high profile” persons who are also said to be involved in the case.

Tara, in her statement registered in the court had also apprehended that her estranged husband, Ranjeet Singh Kohli alias Raquibul Hassan had close contact with several politicians as well as the judicial officers, who were visiting their house very frequently.
