New transformer likely to arrive from Ranchi on Tuesday

The side-effects of deteriorating power supply condition have now started creating new problems for the denizens of Hazaribagh town. Due to inadequate supply of electricity, the drinking water and sanitation department has not supplied water since last 72 hours. More than three lakh citizens in Hazaribagh are suffering from water scarcity due to the electricity problem though there is enough water in the local Charwa dam.

Anjali Kumari, Chairman Hazaribagh Municipal council, accepted that a large population is facing water crisis because the water has not been supplied since last three days. I have talked with the officials of both PHED and electricity department and they have assured me that from Monday onwards the situation will start becoming normal. Me and my colleagues are keeping a close eye on the situation and if the problem persisits then I will write to the senior officials.

When contacted, the officials of PHED department said that since last three days we have never got uninterrupted power supply. We need continuous power supply for atleast four hours to lift the water from the dam and to supply it to the residents of the city.

“We use four pumps of 100 hp for proper water supply in the town and without electricity we are helpless,” said an official of electricity department adding that a heavy transformer fitted at Sindur sub-station is not working properly due to some fault these days. Efforts are on to repair it but it will take some time. Meanwhile, the department has placed demand for a new transformer, from the State headquarters, which will be transported here on Tuesday.
