The Hazaribagh police arrested the main accused in a gang-rape case on Saturday. With their arrest, all the four alleged perpetrators of the heinous crime have been arrested.
The accused who were arrested on Satuerday were identified as Dhanu Ram and Anurag Basu. SP Manoj Kaushik said that several raids had been carried out to nab the accused. In fact, orders to attach their property had been issued prior to their arrest, he said.
A teenaged schoolgirl had been abducted in broad daylight by two men and gang-raped by them and two of their friends for two days at a vacant house owned by an influential businessman-politician of Bengal, barely 50 metres from her home. She had gone missing on August 26 evening. Her father had lodged a 'missing' report on August 27. The Class XI student gave her statement to the Sadar police on Thursday and a team led by OC Dinesh Kumar arrested two of the alleged rapists, Ritesh Kumar alias Nitesh Verma and Sonu Kumar alias Sumit Kumar.
A warrant was issued on Friday against the remaining two accused, Dhanu Ram and Anurag Basu. First Class Judicial Magistrate Divya Mishra is hearing the case. The police nabbed Dhanu and Anurag from the court campus. It was said that they had come to surrender but since the lok Adalat hearing was on, their plan to surrender failed and in the meantime the police team took them into custody.
In another development, sources said, the father of the main accused, DSP Arjun Ram today visited the Sadar PS and threatened OC Dinesh Kumar Singh. When people started to gather, he fled away. Meanwhile, the agitating women organisations, social workers and political parties have praised the police for their quick action and have expected speedy trial of this case. Some organizations have appealed to the members of Hazaribagh bar association not to plead the case of the accused.
