Even before the summer season has approached, the presence of heat can be felt at the Hatia Railway station. The Hatia Railway Station is undergoing acute shortage of water. There is a requirement of two lakh gallons of water at the station per day for several purposes. Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) has failed to meet the demand, which has affected commuters severely, say Railway officials.
Notably, railway yards too are situated at Hatia station and the cleaning work there is getting disturbed due to the shortage of water. “The railway is concerned about the passengers and is looking for several alternatives also. We cannot completely blame the department for the shortage of water, as they too are unable to provide water as the main source; Swarnrekha Rivers is flowing below the mark, creating shortage of water,” informed, Senior DCM of Ranchi Division, Neeraj Kumar.
The depleting level of water in Swarnrekha River, earlier also has caused shortage of water in the trains leaving from Hatia station. The rain fed Swarnrekha River is the main source of water for trains leaving from Ranchi and Hatia stations has become a cause for worry for the Ranchi Rail Division. The official, however, said the department is doing its best to cater to the passengers’ requirements.
“Presently, water is being filled at Muri station in the trains which are originating from Hatia station. It is not the departmental failure but the influence of nature which has even affected the ground water level at several places in the city. However, the letter has been written to the concerned department to resolve the matter as soon as possible,” added Kumar.
lack of water is severely influencing the cleanliness procedure at the railway station, leaving all the sanitation workers to continue the cleaning process without water. “The cleaning process is being carried out on a regular basis. Soon after the arrangement of water the cleanliness will be carried out in the normal way,” Kumar pointed out.
Passengers are reluctant for making alternative arrangements to combat the water crisis. “We have bought five packaged drinking water at the station. The worst part is that there is no arrangement of water insides toilets which is creating problem for travelers,” informed Mani Shankar lal, a passenger.
