Guv shows concern over cured patients at RINPAS

Governor Droupadi Murmu on Monday showed empathy and concern that those who came to RINPAS to get their psychological ailments treated and were living there even after their successful treatment were a major concern for the hospital. She said after meeting one such lady in RINPAS during her visit here on Monday that the Government would be suggested to make proper arrangements to send those cured persons back to home and lead a normal life.

During a visit to Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (RINPAS), the Governor appeared concerned over rising number of cured patients staying in the hospital, which has increased in recent years. She was informed there that legal alternatives were also taken into consideration to send these persons back, as their family members were inhumane enough to accept them back.

The governor was in a ward for females, where she enquired from a lady named Nutan Sinha, working on a sewing machine, about her stay over there. The lady replied that she was there for more than a year. “My brother had brought me here. My husband and in-laws have abandoned me for no reason. Even my parents are not willing to have me a part of their family,” said Sinha, who claimed to be brought from Patna (Bihar).

“RINPAS is for patients, not for cured ones. It’s painful to see such persons living here only because no one is there to accept them back in their family for either no or absurd reasons. I will certainly speak with the government to make proper and timely arrangements for sending such kind of cured persons back to their homes,” said Murmu.

The Governor took a round of RINPAS during her visit. The visit which started with OPD and ended at inspecting kitchen which catered to the needs of over 500 patients every day, also

witnessed the Governor

looking at fine cotton products for in-house uses in the premise, rehabilitation of addicts’ ward and a couple of other centres.

She not only spoke to patients, but also suggested to the addicts present there not to consume drugs ever, as it used to claim multiple lives in

families in many ways.
