At a high-level meeting of Governor's advisor Anand Shankar with top police officials of the State to review the status of investigation in the double murder case of Deoghar, Governor Syed Ahmed recommended CBI inquiry. The CID will continue to look into the matter till the case is formally handed over to the CBI.

The Governor also directed the CID to expedite the investigation process so that the family could get justice. Two minor girls of class VIII, both daughters of policemen were found dead near a pond on May 27 under Jasidih Police station in Deoghar. Neither the police nor the CID was able to find any clue after their bodies was recovered. The Governor has already announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh to the person who gives any clue to the police about the incident.

Dumka DIG Dadanji Sharma and Deoghar SP Ranjeet Prasad were removed on Tuesday after the police failed to come to any conclusion. DIG of CID, Priya Dubey replaced Sharma while Simdega SP Prabhat Kumar took charge as Deoghar SP. Deoghar went on a boil after the incident demanding justice to the family members of the two minors. Along with Governor's advisor K Vijay Kumar, DGP Rajiv Kumar and other senior police officers, the Governor had also visited Deoghar to take stock of the investigation process.

Till then, two persons named Sudheer Kumar and one of his friends, Sonu Singh had been arrested in this regard but nothing substantial came out during the investigation. Kumar is a police constable at Deoghar. The case was earlier handed over to the CID on June 24 which had so far been assisting the Deoghar police. CID superintendent of police Akhilesh Kumar Jha had also visited Deoghar on June 7 to assist the police in the probe.

The DNA tests of the victims reports received by the Deoghar police suggested that the vaginal swab of one of the girls collected from the site of rape contained sperm traces in it. The DNA test reports were prepared at forensic lab in Ranchi. The test results were to be matched with the blood samples of accused Sudhir and Sonu, who are presently lodged in Deoghar jail, as well as other suspects.
