Governor Syed Ahmed means business as far as development of Jharkhand is concerned. At a Press conference on Tuesday, the day he completed four months and ten days in the office under President’s Rule, the Governor stressed on the conscience.

“Timelines are very important (in completion of works). I have initiated some disciplinary action against officials and transferred a few. I want to infuse transparency and have a clear conscience. I come from a State which is very fast-paced and also wish to make Jharkhand like Maharashtra in terms of pace of work,” he said.

“I am going to tour districts and make surprise inspections. It is a message to the officials — that they should keep themselves prepared,” said Ahmed.

Highlighting work started during President’s Rule, the Governor said updating BPl list, rights to the panchayats, restoring a sense of security among citizens, lessening cases of human trafficking and dealing with corruption topped the priority list on January 18.

“A team works in a democracy and I am thankful that I got a good team of advisors, Chief Secretary and others. I have done lots of work regarding PDS, appointed a director to see issues under Schedule V (meant to protect tribal rights) and rural electrification and connectivity. There has been action against corrupt practices. Officials staying more than three years at a place and tainted officials have been transferred in a transparent manner,” he said.

However, he did not forget to mention that past “misdeeds” cannot be corrected in such a short span of time. “The disease here is 12 years old and many existed even before. Bimari jab purani ho toh zyada pakad leti hai,” said the Governor.

Ahmed assured that the good work initiated would lead to a better situation in six to eight months and people will be find a sea change. He stressed on the need for schools and hospitals in every village and also on improving the power scenario.

The Governor felt issues like corruption, under-development and law & order needed special attention.
