Guv concerned for NPU infrastructure

Governor-cum-Chancellor of State Universities Syed Ahmed has expressed concern over Nilamber Pitamber University’s (NPU) infrastructure. The State University formed in 2009 has been functioning in a rented building of Zila Parishad.

Ahmed met NPU vice-chancellor (VC) AN Ojha on Tuesday. The meeting was part of Governor’s first ever initiative to have a face-to-face interaction with each State University VC separately.

Principal Secretary to the Governor Nitin Madan Kulkarni suggested Ahmed that Palamau District Commissioner may be approached for allotting a Government building to the university wherein the university will not have to pay rent.

The Governor has directed Higher Education Director DN Ojha, Kulkarni, AN Ojha and his Officer on Special Duty (Judicial) Nalin Kumar to make efforts in searching land for NPU’s permanent campus.  He stressed on coordinating with Water and Resources and Revenue Department for this purpose.

The NPU was carved out of RU and has been facing staff crunch since its formation. Governor instructed the officials to divide one seventh of RU staffs at NPU in consideration with Human Resources Development Department. The Government is planning to increase the course fee of students. He directed the officials to increase the fees after gaining the confidence of students.

A serious discussion over the pay fixation of staffs in all the State universities was also held. Governor has asked officials to submit a list of proposed salaries and present salaries of all the university employees. Similar meeting with RU VC lN Bhagat is scheduled on Wednesday.
