Governor Syed Ahmed has urged the agricultural scientists to bring the second green revolution in the State. Ahmed who is also the Chancellor of State Universities feels special focus is required on harvesting, recycling and management of rain water as rain fed agriculture is predominant in Jharkhand. “We must strive hard to make the life of farmers happy since they toil throughout their life to provide us food. They deserve recognition for their services to feed the country,” Ahmed said during the valedictory session of the three day Agrotech Kisan Mela at Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) on Monday. Ahmed asked the scientists to promote the laboratory to land concept by reaching the farmers directly in their respective fields.

The Chancellor mentioned that he is aware of the ground realities of this profession as he has himself performed most of the farming operations like land preparation, hoeing, sowing, irrigating through well and harvesting. According to Ahmed, earlier the yielding was low due to the absence of soil testing facility and chemical fertilizer. He cautioned the farmers to apply fertilizers as per requirement of the soil since unchecked use may result in turning the land barren.

Governor felt it is matter of pride that the central government has given Krishi Karman Award to Jharkhand for the third consecutive year for marked improvement in pulses production. He honoured BCCl Jan Seva Trust for exemplary work in renewal energy for agricultural development. MS Yadav of Professional Agricultural Management Services, New Delhi and progressive farmer Prasad Toppo from Chatra were also felicitated. Overall 535 farmers were awarded for their special contribution in agriculture and allied fields. Besides, the Governor, BAU VC referred on the farming activities.
