Governor, Draupadi Murmu, today stressed on the importance of moral values as a major building block of a child’s overall development. Speaking at the State Kalyan Samman Samahroh here on Wednesday, the Governor said, “Scoring cent per cent in exams should not be the only parameter for judging a child’s progress. Here in this ceremony, we are felicitating children on their academic excellence. But, I want them to cultivate good moral values too. I hope that in future, we will felicitate children for excellence in moral values too.”
The felicitation ceremony was organised by Welfare Department, where 226 students and teachers were felicitated for their exceptional academic performance in eight categories. They were awarded with medals, certificates and cash prize. Out of these 226 students most of them were girls. In addition to this 20 best teachers in the state as well as five best schools were felicitated in the ceremony.
“I am really glad to be a part of this ceremony. Initiatives like this boosts the morale of children and motivates them to dream for higher goals,” said Murmu.
In the ceremony several schools from all over the state were felicitated for their exceptional academic performance. B. C. Several elements that add on to the overall performance of the child were highlighted in the event. This included the importance of identifying oneself as the part of a society, moral education and importance of co-curricular activities.
“In the present modern times, socialization has become a major issue. Children are becoming more eccentric and in this process are also forgetting their roots. But i think uplift of the society should be the ultimate goal of every individual. The bright faces present in here will indeed reach extreme heights in their future but I urge them to remember their community and work for them,” said she.
“The singing and dancing competitions held yesterday as well as today’s event are testimony to the fact that residential schools are capable of being at the top at both academics and extracurricular activities,” she added.
While addressing the audience Draupadi Murmu highlighted that the reason behind children coming out with flying colours is a result of the combined efforts of the students and the teachers. She said, “I express my heartfelt thanks to the Welfare Department for organising this event because of which the talent of these children has come in public.
The reason behind the success of these children is due to the sheer efforts of the school and the teachers. Thus, I thank all the teachers present here for their efforts.”
