Governor Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday asked the students to avail the benefits of Government of India (GoI) schemes like Start-up India/Stand-up India that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.
“If students are thinking of starting their own venture, then one must avail the benefits of GoI schemes like Start-up India/Stand-up India that promotes innovation and entrepreneurship to give thrust to their projects. Also, through owning an enterprise one shall become creators of Jobs and add economic value to the society,” the Governor said while addressing the students of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra during its 28th Convocation ceremony.
Applauding the work undertaken by the institute in recent years, the Governor further said, “BIT as a globally acknowledged institution has been doing exemplary work in imparting knowledge to the students for many decades. Over the years, the institute has nurtured technocrats, researchers and managers who are ready to take up the challenges and surmount any difficulties.”
The Governor said that the trained manpower is needed at different levels and therefore, institutions like BIT could look at the possibilities of imparting specific technical skills to the people in those areas of this state where large projects are being established.
“There is immense potential for industrial growth in this region. Trained youth from engineering institutes or from the field of Business Management should surely be motivated enough to initiate their own enterprises,” said the Governor.
The Governor, on the occasion, asked the students to upgrade their skills broadening the knowledge base. “Students must build strong linkages with the industry. An industry-interface cell must be in place. The cell must engage itself in sponsoring of key positions by industry; drafting of experts from industry in project guidance and curriculum design and setting up of incubation centres, laboratories and research parks. ‘Quest for Excellence’ should be the ultimate goal of every student,” she further added.
On the occasion, the Governor further said that all higher, technical educational institutions, particularly engineering institutes must promote a scientific temperament among the students. “Our higher educational institutions are an integral part of the local eco-system. The Government has taken important initiatives like creation of model villages, Clean India and digital infrastructure. I am confident that students of BIT will actively play a key role in realizing the objectives of the ‘Digital India’ programme in this region.”
