Guv Advisor blames porous State border for rising Naxalism

Advisor to the Governor K Vijay Kumar has mainly blamed border breach for the increasing Naxalism in Jharkhand. Surrounded by the Naxal-affected Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, it is vulnerable to Maoists sneaking in for an ambush and out after attacks.

Kumar was speaking after a review meeting on Thursday with Governor Syed Ahmed on law & order and the Maoist threat. He pointed out that it was not security forces’ atrocities against locals which led to Naxalism, since the same policemen are deputed everywhere.

“It’s a very lame excuse…border problem is the main reason behind rise of Naxalism in the State. We have to face border breach from neighbours Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal,” said Kumar.

Special care is being taken for development of such areas so the poor villagers are not influenced by the Maoists, according to the Advisor. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary RS Sharma, Home Secretary NN Pandey and DGP Rajeev Kumar, along with other police officers.

Rajeev Kumar said, “It was a general review meeting where the Governor was briefed about the overall Naxal scenario and major achievements of security personnel in the last few months.”

The most vulnerable areas were identified and deployment of security forces was reviewed. Ahmed directed officials to expedite recruitment rules and improve expenditure plan funds for the fire department, home guards and the prison.

According to the DGP, the Governor also directed an upgrade in training institutes as well as speedy completion of pending projects. The police were told to stay in their toes.
