Gunshots rocked the State capital early in the morning on Tuesday, where a businessman was shot dead in Hatia while another person was seriously injured after being shot at his face in Chutia area while he was going to drop his son to the Oxford School. According to police sources, land may be the reason behind the incidents as both were said to be also involved in land related dealings. Police suspect the involvement of the same group in both the incidents.
Deen Dayal Sahu was shot dead near National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT) by some unidentified criminals while a bullet was pumped on the left side of Sanjeev Kumar’s face, who is struggling for his life at Apollo hospital in Ranchi. Both the incidents took place in a broad day light barely within a span of three hours putting a question mark on the situation of law and order in the capital city.
“Clear cut reason behind the killing has not yet been indentified as the family members are not in a position to say anything in this regard. It could be the personal enmity behind Sahu’s killing,” said SP City Anoop Birthare.“It was around 9 am when Sanjeev Kumar who was going to drop his son to the school, was shot one bullet in his face. land dispute might be the reason behind the incident,” said Officer in charge of Chutia Police Station.
Kumar was a resident of Church Road while Sahu used to live in lower Hatia area. Following the incident, local residents along with body blocked the Ranchi-Tupudana Road for several hours and burnt tyres against the degrading law and order situation in the area. They alleged that the police inaction has led to the growing public disenchantment with the system. The protesters were demanding immediate arrest of the assailants and setting up an Out Post in the area.
They, however, were convinced to remove the blockade after the intervention of Hatia ASP Nisha Murmu, who promised them to take proper steps if submitted a written application of demands made by them in this regard.“Sahu, 40, in furniture businessman, also involved in property dealings, was killed early in the morning while going towards Hatia station barely one and a half km from his house near NIFFT,” said a local in Hatia. According to an eyewitness, Sahu was going on his bike when two youths came from the other side and pumped in two bullets, one on his head another on his back.
On Saturday also, Ranchi-Khunti Road was blocked by the locals after a 40-year old land broker Ashok Nath Shahdeo was shot dead in the same manner by four unidentified gunmen at Tupudana in the same area demanding the arrest of the culprits and compensation for the family members of the deceased.
The killing of several people over land disputes in the last few years, has been a cause of concern for the senior police officials who are being alleged of not taking proper action to tame the criminals.
“Since, a lot of money is involved in the land dealings, it cannot be said who changes his mind and becomes one’s enemy,” said the Birthare. Unlike extortion and other cases, it is not possible to check before the incident takes place,” he added. Birthare, however, claimed that most of the killings related to land dispute have been cracked
by the police.
