GST rate cut big relief to traders, claims BJP

In a bid to make small and mid-sized businessmen understand benefits of recent GST rate cuts on few of the items, State BJP vice president Sameer Oraon said on Sunday that the GST Council tried to timely iron out difficulties faced by small traders of the State.

Targeting opposition parties, Oraon also said that those opposing Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime have either lost their grounds among traders and the people, or have lost visionary eyes which could penetrate into near to long-term future of the country.

Taking the issue forward, State BJP spokesperson Deen Dayal Barnwal present on the occasion along with another spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said that Jharkhand was home of fairly good number of traders falling into revised rates of GST. “This is another Diwali bonanza for traders in country and State through which not only rates on some key products have been slashed, but filing processes have also been made friendly,” said Barnwal.

He however added that any new system (GST) brought in place to replace a system which existed for over 70 years (old pattern of taxation) was destined to have one or two initial flaws.

“But they can be rectified only after implementation, and not in principle on papers. The difficulties faced by traders, if any, are also minor on nature and they can be rectified in due course. But those crying failure of GST or coining issues with new regime have lost to foresee near to long-term future of country. Even they know their acceptance among the mass,” said Barnwal.

Notably, GST Council had suggested on Friday last week during its meeting, and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced, of slashing GST rates on few items apart from easing filing related norms for traders. Under revised norms, traders having yearly turnover of up to Rs 1.5 Crores can now file returns once in a quarter, which Jaitley named big relief to some 90 percent taxpaying traders. The Council also slashed rates on as many as 27 items including slice dry mango, chapatti, packaged foods for children, unbranded Ayurvedic, Yunani, Homeopathic medicines, plastic, rubber and paper wastes.

Shahdeo said on the day that the people of State were very much with reformative moves taken by the State government which has irked the opposition more than anything else. Commenting on ex-CM Babulal Marandi’s remarks on Government earlier on the day, Shahdeo said that the JVM leader had become non-relevant to the people.
