On the occasion of first anniversary of Jharkhand Panchayat Women Resource Centre (JPWRC), a seminar was organised on ‘Power to the Panchayats in Jharkhand’ on Wednesday at Hotel Ashoka where the yearly report of Jharkhand Panchayat Women Resource Centre was presented.

Director of State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), RP Singh said, “The main purpose of this seminar is to review the working of Jharkhand Working Resource Centre and to provide all the 29 rights of the Panchayat which will be implemented in the coming year for its growth.”

Describing about JPWRC, Singh further added, “Jharkhand Panchayat Women Resource Centre is a result of joint initiatives of four like minded organisations State Institute of Rural Development, UNICEF, State Commission for Women and NGO named Yuva Manthan. JPWRC has given more than 15 elected members on various subjects to empower them in their functioning.”

The chairperson of the Jharkhand Woman Commission, Hemlata S Mohan discussed about the rights of the woman in seminar.

Chairman of Indian Social Institute, New Delhi Dr George Mathew said, “Panchayat should work as an administrative group. Without making the Panchayat powerful the growth of State is incomplete. Jharkhand should see the Panchayat of Kerala and should learn from it how each and every Panchayat of Kerala gets a budget of 2 crores for its growth. Hence, the growth of the State is hidden in the growth of the Panchayat.”

Panchayat of Bero is a good example to be witnessed in Jharkhand. The work done there is really appreciated whether it is for drinking water, sanitation, nutrition or Angrawadi makes it a model Panchayat.

Additional Chief Secretary, Sudhir Prasad said, “Drinking Water and Sanitation department provides various rights to the Panchayats which makes it a model and powerful Panchayat. Today people are talking to see the Panchayat of Kerala but the Panchayat of Bero, a district in Ranchi is also a very good example too witness You have to practice first and then you will learn automatically.”
