Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) Chairperson, Arvind Prasad Singh after the publication of revised board results passing approximately 25,000 students said that due to the changed norms this year like considering best five subjects grading while preparing composite mark sheets created perplexity, besides the language papers issue. Few major norms were overlooked while tabulating mark sheets of students stated the JAC Chairperson.
In spite of several attempts being made to establish the State Board at par with the recognized examination conducting body, the attempts seems feeble as JAC was again stuck in a tumult after declaration of the board examination results on May 30.
This year, loophole in evaluating the answer scripts of the students was exposed that had slashed down the results of both Matric and Inter examination, so much so that the pass percentage of Matric went down to 57.91 per cent, the lowest in last 12 years.
Though quite a number of students who were declared unsuccessful in Matric and Inter examination 2017 earlier by JAC heaved a sigh of relief after the declaration of revised board results on June 1 but it has again raised the question on the credibility of the State board that has often got engulfed in some controversy since its establishment.
“Few basic key points were ignored that had earlier resulted in the downfall of board results this year. From language papers issue to considering the best five subjects grading, due to change in pattern this confusion aroused. This year, addition of vocational subjects also created some confusion in tabulation of composite mark sheets,” said, the JAC Chairperson.
Notably, ignoring several clauses and key points in compiling the final mark sheets, numerous students who took the examination this year were declared unsuccessful. As per the new guidelines, it is mandatory for all the students to pass at least in one language paper but ignoring the rules all such candidates were declared unsuccessful who had either failed in English language paper or in Sanskrit subject. Similarly, ignoring the grace marking rules as well few students this year were failed.
After receiving a communiqué from Department of School Education and literacy Department, the officials of JAC scrutinized the answer scripts of nearly 50 thousand students, out of which 25 thousand students were declared successful, raising the pass percentage from 57.91 percent to 67.91percent.
“After evaluating the answer sheets on May 31, the pass percentage of students passing the Matric examination has gone up by 10 per cent. Similarly, five per cent grace marks is given to a candidate who had failed in one subject with few marks and three percent grace marks is given to a candidate who had failed in two subjects, this important rule too was ignored,” said, Singh.
