Govt's U-turn on probe into fake Naxal surrender draws Cong's flak

The Congress has questioned the Government stand taken in the Jharkhand High Court refraining from initiating a CBI probe into the fake Naxal surrender case.

The party, a day after the stand taken, has come out openly and termed the step contrary to larger interest of the common citizens.

“The Government has shown insensitivity to such a crucial matter and took U-turn after showing intent for a CBI probe earlier. It seems that the shift in the stand has come after the Government feared that several top police officials involved in the scandal will be exposed,” said Rajesh Thakur, JPCC spokesperson.

The Government, during the hearing in the court on Thursday, had surprised one and all by stating that there is no need to order for a CBI probe into the case where allegedly 514 innocent tribal youths were made to surrender posing as naxals for the sake of jobs. Besides, the hand of some coaching institutes into the forgery role is also under scanner.

The Congress had earlier also called on the Governor demanding a probe by the apex investigating agency. “The delegation that met the Governor was assured that speedy progress would be made in the handing over the case to the CBI. But now, the stand of the Government shows its insensitivity towards the victims clearly taken under pressure from the bureaucrats,” said State Congress general secretary Alok Kumar Dubey.

Besides the Congress, JMM has also rapped the Government for its stand. “It is not good in the larger interest of the State. It seems that they have something to hide. Our Government had taken the decision to recommend for a CBI probe looking at the seriousness of the fraud committed. But later on, the new Government did not tender support to the CBI in that direction and now has declined for a probe by the agency. We will take the matter into public,” said Supriyo Bhattacharya, JMM spokesperson.

It was the JMM-led Government that after the scam came into light had recommended for a CBI investigation.
