The State Government has decided not to purchase its own choppers and rely on choppers that are leased out to the State, Minister In-Charge of Civil Aviation CP Singh said on Wednesday. The Government, he said, took a seven-seater helicopter on lease for five years in the month of May this year. The average cost of maintaining the chopper is around Rs 30 to Rs 40 lakh. On the other hand, purchasing a new chopper may cost the Government around Rs 80 crore, an official from the Civil Aviation Department said.
