Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday said his Government will make sure that the recommendations of Majithia Wage Board for journalists are implemented in the State and the scribes will get all the benefits. He hailed the contribution of the media workers in the progress of the State.

The Chief Minister was addressing the media interactive session of Kolhan division at Tata Auditorium. He officially launched accidental group insurance for the journalists of the State.

Sharing the steps being taken by the Government, Soren said the labour department has sent letters to all media houses seeking report whether the Wage Board was implemented or not. “We want to ensure that the journalists get all the benefits and I will personally review the progress and take steps in this

regard,” Soren.

Earlier, launching the group insurance to cover the accidental benefits for journalists, Soren said such scheme for journalist was launched for the first time in the State and more such steps will be taken to ensure their well being.

On the sidelines of the interactive session, he also said the mineral-rich Jharkhand has plenty of potential for growth but lagged behind because of the prevailing mindset of the people.

He said that it is a matter of great concern that the rural areas of the State are still deprived of poor drinking water and villagers need to travel miles to fetch water. Water and sanitation are basic needs that should be addressed on an urgent basis he added.

“Our Government has set a target to ensure availability of drinking water and roads in all the villages of Jharkhand. We are working over it. Efforts are also be being made to bring public and private sectors to help and utilise water from mineral areas, as water management has become a major challenge before the government following severe back-to-back drought years,” he said.

He added that it’s high time to speed up the implementation of the schemes so that the people can reap the benefits.

“I think it is essential to strengthen the monitoring network, at the state level, to supervise timely completion of the important projects,” noted Soren.

He also highlighted his achievements during the short stint of one year in power. Soren said : “ We have started measures to register improvement across sectors including health, education, and infrastructure, he said, while expressing satisfaction over his government’s performance during last one year in power.
