In a bid to boost adventure sports in Jharkhand, State tourism department is planning to revamp the Jharkhand Adventure Tourism Institute (JATI) soon.

This time district chapters will be created for adventure sports and will be activated in the most efficient ways to attract both tourists and sports enthusiasts.

However, the procedure to revamp the institute will take about six months, said officials.

Citing details about the adventure sports in order to enhance tourism in Jharkhand, Tourism Secretary, Avinash Kumar said, “Meetings are being conducted regularly on the issue and the department will soon start JATI. The institute will conduct all sports activities like trekking, river rafting, rock climbing, camps, mountaineering and other adventure sports activities”.

“There is a great potential for promoting aero sports activities in the State. But it needs to be developed with utmost care and safety,” he added.

Giving details about the scope of adventure sports, Kumar further added, “The State is blessed with number of big water bodies, enthralling terrain, hills, forest which are the pre-requisites for promoting adventure sports activities. The Jharkhand Adventure Tourism Institute is set up under the Societies Registration Act, 1960. The institute will not only provide for adventure tourism facilities but would also impart training to local youths.”

JATI was created few years back. But unfortunately it failed to grab the attentions of people. “This time we will create district chapters in order to create awareness about the adventure sports,” said Kumar.

Notably, the most important aspect in adventure sports is to create the safety measures standards for the sports enthusiasts.

“We are planning to bring experts from different States to teach the adventure sports tactics. The department will also create awareness regarding adventure sports and after proper training few locals will be inducted in the training and rescuing teams,” Kumar mentioned.

Comprehensive adventure tourism promotion plan for the State would be prepared to lay down the regulatory framework for the enforcement of safety standards,” Avinash Kumar added.
