Govt to prohibit sale of thermocol products

The State Government has plans to issue an order prohibiting sale of non-biodegradable thermocol plates and glasses. Chief Minister Raghubar Das said this during a Jan Samvad programme at Chotanagra Panchayat — once rebel-hit area of Saranda forest area on Friday.

The CM made this announcement after listening to woes of women Self-Help Group members regarding lack of opportunities to market their products.

“Thermocol plates are being sold across the State despite it being non-biodegradable and have adverse effect on environment. I will be holding a meeting in Ranchi and issue a directive against use and sale of thermocol items,” Das said.

Reacting to repeated complaints of lack of employment opportunities in the mineral-rich region, the Chief Minister said that three steel plants would be set up in Manoharpur (in Saranda), Chakradharpur and Seraikella to make use of the iron ores available in the State.

“The Centre would soon be giving its nod to the State and around Rs40,000 crore would be spent in opening industries, which would create huge employment opportunities,” said Das.

This apart there would be huge recruitment (10,000) for Adim Jan Jati Battalion (Primitive Tribe Group battalion) soon.

Das said that Deputy Commissioners of the district have been asked to identify vacant land where solar parks would be constructed for supplying electricity in forest areas.

The CM also assured villagers of better healthcare facilities after recruitment of doctors in few months and launching of telemedicine facility within six months in the State.

“The telemedicine facility will be available in panchayat bhawan for rural people,” said Das. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also held a meeting around 10.50 am with mining sector -- including big players like Tata Steel, SAIl, ACC, Usha Martin and Rungta Mines at Officers Club in Kiriburu, around 180 km from Jamshedpur.
