Govt to develop App for availing petrol subsidy

State Chief Minister Hemant Soren on completion of two years of his Government announced to provide Rs 25 per litre subsidy to all ration card holders in the state if they buy the fuel for their two-wheelers. The scheme aims to provide monetary relief to people from BPL families who are burdened due to rising petrol prices and more than 61 lakh ration card holders in the state will be entitled to a subsidy of Rs 25 per liter per litre for their motorcycle and scooty. The beneficiaries will get the subsidy of 10 litre petrol in a month.

The scheme will start from January 26. For availing the benefit of scheme, the beneficiary has to take a slip after getting petrol in the motorcycle or scooty. Subsidy will be transferred in the bank account by uploading this slip on the app being prepared by the government.

Beneficiaries will have to register themselves on the app. Ration card details, Aadhar link bank account and vehicle registration details will have to be uploaded during registration.

A maximum amount of Rs 250 will be given through PDS dealer as petrol subsidy through DBT in Aadhar linked bank account.

Minister of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Rameshwar Oraon said that the government has estimated that one third of the 61 lakh ration card holders i.e. about 20 lakh beneficiaries have motorcycle or scooter. About 50 crores will be spent on giving subsidies to so many people. If the number of beneficiaries is even more than also the government is ready to provide subsidies.

Minister Rameshwar Oraon said that he was in discussion with Chief Minister Hemant Soren for the last one and a half months on this plan. Several delegations had also sought help from the government to provide relief from rising inflation. Keeping in mind the needy, poor sections of the people, the government decided to give relief instead of reducing VAT on petrol. Rejecting the questions of the opposition, he said that this government is taking decisions very carefully to take forward the state and its people.

The minister said a minimum parameter of 10 litres has been set so that the scheme is not "misused". The scheme has been designed mainly to benefit two-wheeler riders and farmers who operate pumps for agricultural purposes.
