Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday said it is the duty of all to help the poor, needy and destitute during this global pandemic and cold weather.

“The cold weather is very painful for such a class of people. It is our responsibility to give them social support and security. The state government is committed to providing the necessary resources to the needy,” said the CM while addressing a blanket distribution programme organised by ‘Mission One Million Smiles’ at St Xavier’s School, Doranda here on Wednesday.

The CM said that the State government is constantly trying to ensure normal life in the State. “The laughter and sounds of children have been echoing in the St Xavier school campus for years, but today there is a calm atmosphere in the school campus due to the global epidemic. Given the crisis of the coronavirus epidemic, major changes have occurred in many systems. Accepting the challenge of the epidemic, human life adopted new methods and systems to protect it,” he said.

The CM said that the State government has taken a careful step and decided to open schools in order to enable children studying in class 10th and 12th to come back to school. “At present, the number of children coming to schools due to the fear of infection is not very huge, but we do not have to keep in mind the feeling of despair. Taking care of your own safety, safety of others and taking everyone’s cooperation is the way forward. There are challenges in many areas but there is no need to panic with these challenges. Troubles come and go. In such a situation, taking the cooperation of all, we will move ahead by tackling these challenges and overcome all obstacles,” he said.

Soren, while praising the blanket distribution program organized by the district administration, school management and “Mission One Million Smiles”, said, “You are carrying out the responsibility of social security. You have expressed your condolences to the poor and the needy. In the same way, there is a need to continue working for social progress by creating mutual coordination.” On the occasion, the CM also distributed woollen clothes and blankets among the needy children and women present in the school premises.

Women and children were present on the occasion including Father Sanjay Kerketta, Principal of St Xavier School Doranda, Deputy Commissioner Ranchi Chhavi Ranjan, AC cum coordinator of the campaign Sanjay Pandey of the “Mission One Million Smiles”.
