To save State residents from Ebola virus after the first Indian was detected in Chennai with the symptoms on August 9, the Jharkhand Government has geared up to take preventive measures.
The virus which has affected residents of the West African countries is also known as hemorrhagic fever and is transmitted in the body through sweat or blood. It is also spread through a dead body which is not cremated properly. No vaccine or medicine is available to cure the disease.
“Since the virus is coming from Africa, we have deployed three doctors at the Birsa Munda Airport to keep a check on foreign passengers. In case a person is detected with the virus, he or she will be taken to an isolated place for further checking,” Director, Health Services Sumant Mishra said.
“We are yet to receive any written guidelines from Government of India. Since a case in India has already been found, we have started taken measures,” he added.
Meanwhile Doctors at Ranchi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) have been asked to take action in case such a patient is admitted.
“We have expert doctors in our department to tackle any such case. As of now, no case has been reported,” RIMS Director Dr SK Choudhary said.
Sources maintained that alert is to be declared at Airports, Railway Station and Bus Stops to keep a watch on passengers arriving from foreign countries.
World Health Organization is mulling to begin the clinical trial for treating the virus, mentions a report.
