Govt okays 80:20 formula for matric, inter results

The matriculation and intermediate examination results conducted by Jharkhand Academic Council will be prepared on the basis of class IX and XI results. Marks obtained in IX and XI board examination will be doubled. The decision to this effect was taken after Chief Minister Hemant Soren gave his approval to the results formula prepared by Jharkhand Academic Council.

Apart from this, 20 marks will be allotted to students through internal assessment. The Jharkhand Academic Council has already given its consent for allotting marks in practical subjects through internal assessment. The JAC has asked respective schools/ colleges to constitute a committee which will fix marks for practical subjects.

It may be noted that last month, the Jharkhand Academic Council announced to cancel the board examinations for both class 10 and 12. The decision was taken by the Chief Minister Hemant Soren in view of Covid 19 situation prevailing in the State. Jharkhand is under lockdown like restrictions named as Swasthya Suraksha Saptah since April 22.

JAC Chairman Arvind Singh said, “The matriculation and intermediate results will be prepared on the basis of class IX and XI results. The JAC had conducted 40 marks board examinations in class IX and XI. The marks obtained by students in IX and XI will be doubled, while the remaining 20 marks will be given to students based on internal assessment.”

Singh also said that those students who are not satisfied with the JAC results criteria will get a chance to appear in the supplementary examination, however, they have to submit an affidavit that supplementary results will be considered as their matriculation and intermediate results.

The JAC chairman also said that the results of both matriculation and intermediate will be declared by month end. Sources said that the JAC had also submitted the same result formulas at the Supreme Court, based on Apex Court query from JAC on results preparedness.

More than 4.31 lakh students were expected to appear for the matric examinations, while over 3.32 lakh students were likely to write intermediate examinations this year. Meanwhile, students have mixed reactions on JAC results criteria. Manish Lal, a class X student said, “As there is decline in corona cases, it would have been better if the JAC and State Government would have conducted matriculation and intermediate results following all corona guidelines.”

However, there are some students who welcomed the decision. Dilip Kumar Mahto, another student said, “It is a good decision of JAC to consider board marks of IX and XI for preparing JAC results as all state boards and central boards including CBSE, ICSE are preparing results based on past examination results.”
