'Govt not to buckle under Opp pressure'

Feeling boosted morally with the reply sent to the Personnel Department by Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, the Government has stiffened its posture to handle the tirades coming from a united Opposition.

In a meeting of ruling legislators in the evening at the residence of Chief Minister Raghubar Das, it was decided to counter the moves of the parties like JMM, Congress and JVM which are expected to overshadow the fortnight long Budget Session started on Wednesday.

“The issues (relating to the Chief Secretary and DGP DK Pandey) did not come for discussion. As per reports, the CS has replied to the explanation asked to the competent authority and the matter should rest there. There are some procedures and everyone should wait for that. It would be unfortunate if the Opposition members continue raising the issues and disallow the House from functioning,” said BJP chief whip Radha Krishna Kishore after the NDA meeting.

Instead, the ruling bloc focused about passage of supplementary and annual Budgets which are on the prime agendas of the Government for the opening Session of the current year. “We have seen similar scenes on previous so many occasions. They together cannot stop the Government from fulfilling its duties which are necessary for the wellbeing of the people of the State,” said Urban Development Minister CP Singh.

On the other hand, Opposition parties sat at the residence of leader of Opposition Hemant Soren where the controversial issue remained top on their agenda. “We yesterday met the Governor demanding action against the CS, the DGP and ADG Anurag Gupta who has been indicted by the Election Commission for his illegitimate role in the Rajya Sabha election. We again raised this during the Governor address today. So far the Government has not come up with any assurance or action. If this is the situation, then we would be left with no other option but to press for out legitimate demands,” said ClP leader Alamgir Alam after the meeting.

However, he maintained that the Congress party in particular was in favour of smooth functioning of the House. “I am of the view that the House should function. Even if they are putting across the said reply of the Chief Secretary where is the decision on the DGP and the ADGIJ They should understand that responsibility to run the House lies more on the Government,” said the Congress legislator. The Congress also set separately with its MlAs.
