Effective disaster management, world class drainage system, availability of real time information of any location within city and other such city specific information may not become a reality for next couple of years in the wake of delay in 3D mapping of Ranchi.
The department of Planning & Development is moving at snails pace and the project seems to be very low on the priority list of the department. “We have not set any date line to accomplish the task of 3D mapping,” said Avinash Kumar, Secretary Planning & Development. Kumar added that the plan has been sent to the Government and is under consideration.
In the Survey of India (SoI), they ball is in Government’s court as the proposal has been sent to the State Government. The project will cost around Rs 50 crore and will take at least three years to complete. “The proposal was sent more than a month ago and we are in constant touch with the concerned department since then,” said source. The February meeting this year was attended by the Surveyor General of India Swarn Subba Rao and Avinash Kumar.
The 3D map will provide real time information with a click of mouse. It is said the system would help in developing an effective disaster management programme and will provide details of routes and locations for safe exit from the epicentre of the disaster.
The SoI has begun developing 2D map of Ranchi and unlike on previous occasion will include geographical representation upto 24 kms radius from zero mile in Ranchi. Almost 24 technical workers are involved in developing the fresh map. Earlier it provided information upto 13 kms radius from zero mile mark.
