In misappropriation of 710 quintal Mid-Day-Meal (MDM) rice a Government employee of Chandankiyari block was arrested and sent to jail on Monday. After getting the arrest warrant from Bokaro Court, district police along with West Bengal police arrested Manoranjan Mitra from his parental residence at Raghunathpur and later handed over to the court, police said.
Maitra was the in-charge for distribution of MDM rice during the financial year 2012-13 in Chandankiyari block. On the order of senior officials, BEO Binod Kumar raided in the godown in April 2013 and found a short fall of 710 quintal of rice. Instead of 1245 quintal team found only 534 quintal in stock, said an official. “Police are investigating and we are also looking for involvement of other government employees in this misappropriation”, said an official.
